The push for active learning has moved online where traditional hands-on learning methods are far more difficult to implement. Constant advances in online learning technology continue to overcome barriers to learning and require reassessments of technological capabilities and best practices. This study examined the use of Network Certification courseware for promoting active learning in both live and online classes. The data for this study was collected over several semesters from students taking advanced undergraduate courses in Networking from a small four year AACSB accredited private university and a small four year AACSB accredited public university. Student outcomes and perceptions on active learning as well as satisfaction with courseware components were examined. It was found that active learning and satisfaction with courseware components were both positively correlated with time spent and student outcomes.
