AWS Academy as an economical and effective Pedagogy for IT Systems Administration Essentials Course

System Administration courses for Information Technology students often seek to provide practical experience through simulated labs and ebooks. Most ebooks and lab simulations for System Administration courses artificially silo administrative tasks and obfuscate vital skills (e.g., establishing connections and creating new resources) for the learner. This paper presents a teaching methodology in which IT students manage cloud-based systems using free AWS Academy resources. This methodology allows learners in the course to have a data center in the cloud. This cloud data center provides a more holistic administration experience. We also present survey data reflecting student perceptions and feedback from their experience in the course.
